The work in six movements was originally written for nine instruments; fortunately, this version has been reconstructed. Stravinsky&#8217;s &#8220;L&#8217;Histoire du Soldat,&#8221; from which the composer extracted three trio movements in 1919 for concert use, is orchestrated in a much more restrained manner.
