Wiltgen, Dartevelle & Mozart at Musek am Syrdall

This concert by Kammerata Luxembourg and Musek am Syrdall highlights the richness of Luxembourg’s contemporary music scene by presenting works by Roland Wiltgen and Olivier Dartevelle alongside Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A Major, one of the great masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire. Notably, Wiltgen’s String Quartet No. 2 receives its world premiere at this concert, making the event a special occasion for Luxembourg’s musical landscape. Additionally, both Wiltgen and Dartevelle were born exactly 201 years after Mozart, emphasizing how chamber music continues to evolve across centuries while maintaining its deep historical roots.

Wiltgen’s String Quartet No. 2 reflects his deep engagement with the genre, marked by a refined harmonic language and structural clarity. Dartevelle, a highly accomplished clarinetist and composer, will perform his own quintet Le barde et le Rapsode, bringing a unique perspective to the work as both its creator and interpreter.

Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet, composed in 1789 for his friend and clarinetist Anton Stadler, is renowned for its seamless interplay between the clarinet and string quartet, its lyrical elegance, and its innovative textures.

By uniting the voices of two contemporary Luxembourgish composers with one of the most beloved chamber music works of the Classical period, this concert offers a compelling exploration of continuity and innovation in music, demonstrating how composers—separated by centuries—continue to engage with the same fundamental questions of form, expression, and dialogue between instruments.
