Voices and Organ between Renaissance and Contemporary Creation

For this exceptional concert, Kammerata Luxembourg welcomes the renowned Calmus Ensemble from Leipzig – a vocal quintet that has captivated audiences for over 25 years with the precision of its timbre, the richness of its stylistic range, and the depth of its musical expression. Alongside Maurice Clement, organist of Kammerata, a true musical dialogue unfolds: between voices and organ breath, between Renaissance and contemporary creation, between formal rigor and sonic freedom.

The evening revolves around the four elements – water, earth, air, and fire – symbols of both the forces of nature and inner states of being. The cycle Les éléments de l’être, written especially for Calmus by Harald Banter, resonates with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Duetti – refined organ pieces brought to life by Maurice Clement as if they were mirror-like responses. Between these poles emerge spaces of improvisation, folk songs revisited by Brahms, and vocal works from the Renaissance by William Byrd.

The result is a contemplative and intense musical dialogue – on the power of nature, on the beauty of the human voice… and on what takes place in the silences between the sounds.
