rainy days Festival | Spotlight on Victor Fenigstein and Dziga Vertov

The extreme situations that people can find themselves in when living in an urban environment are highlighted by Kammerata Luxembourg’s programme, which takes a multi-media approach. The composition The Daily Worker’s Ballet, on which Victor Fenigstein worked from 2009 to 2012, is being given its posthumous premiere on the occasion of his 100th birthday – the Swiss-Luxembourg composer died in 2022. In keeping with the title, the music is translated into dance by two moving bodies.

The silent documentary film Человек с киноаппаратом (The Man with the Camera), released in 1929 in the Soviet Union, attempts to capture everyday life in the major cities of Kiev, Moscow and Odessa on film. Film theorist Richard Bossons and composer Leo Geyer have succeeded in reconstructing much of the music that accompanied the film after its premiere. To do this, they relied on the ‘musical conspectus’ recently discovered by researcher Yuri Tsivian and composer Leo Geyer, which restores the original musical intentions for this silent film. To mark the 95th anniversary of the film’s premiere, a particularly authentic experience of the film is being made possible.
