Rainbow

The rainbow is first a physical phenomenon, but also a powerful symbol that evokes diversity, peace, and justice. Luxembourgish composer Camille Kerger writes an entire cycle inspired by the seven colors of the rainbow. An instrumental formation identical to that of Schönberg’s “Pierrot lunaire” is broken down for each movement into different sub-ensembles, with the five required instruments only playing together in the final eighth movement. The more poetic content of Schönberg’s model is also adopted: although no verbal language is used, the presence of dancer Jill Crovisier and the lighting concept by Marc Thein lend a theatrical component to the performance. Light and dance will not only form a sort of counterpoint to the music, but also to each other.
